Description
For sale is a set of four early French silver holders for glass cups from the 1819-1838 period, maker DG, as is. The pieces are 3 inches tall by 3 inches in diameter at the rim, and together they weigh 256 grams. They have raised hollow feet with a band of engine turned engraving, deep cups with an incurved rim, and four thin acanthus leaf supports for the stepped upper rim. The pieces have not been monogrammed. The pieces are marked inside the cups with a Paris guarantee mark and a maker’s mark of [DG] in a diamond lozenge. The pieces are also stamped on one leaf with an 1819-1838 period 950 silver assay mark, and on the outside of the foot rim with a Paris Moyenne mark.Condition on the set is fair. Two of the lower leaf attachments are broken, as shown, and at least one other has been repaired. There are other bends, dents and distortions, as well as some stubborn black spots and some large scratches or cut marks. Still some interesting pieces of old French silver!
