Here is a
FRENCH ANTIQUE IMPORTED 800 SILVER
WITH ART NOUVEAU ORNATE DECORATIONS
WAX SEAL STAMP
Believed to date back close to the end of the 19th.c
Notice the
beautiful art nouveau decorations
(the shell and the grapes with all the curved lines).
The stamp has the tiny weevil rectangular mark, which (as per
http://www.silvercollection.it/frenchhallmarks.html) matches mark under the "
Hallmarks of Imported and Exported items
" and specifically matches the entry for "
imported objects 800/1000 from 1 July 1864 to 30 June 1893
" (I am aware that some other directories have slightly differing dating scheme- so could be a few year later).
The mark is quite hard to pick up from the photos (you really need a good magnifying glass). Yet, on the second photo you can notice some tiny rectangle on the very base part (I could not figure what is there) and on the third photo you can notice the (bigger) hallmark on the bottom on the grapes.
I believe the stamp to be hollow and yet it weights between 18 and 19 grams
Length is 7.5cms and width is ~1.6cms (on the handle). The base (ellipse) long axis measures 2.1cms
Yet, the decorations are much along the ART NOUVEAU style- please look for yourself.
Condition is as per the attached photos.
