Very rare and very beautiful, ca1890’s Pair of Native American Sioux Indian Quill and Bead Decorated Hide Moccasins. This outstanding Pair of 19th century Sioux Moccasins each measure approx. 10" long at their stiff hide sole. They feature a series of beautiful, quill wrapped horizontal lanes on the vamp and a border lane of beadwork that extends as a vertical lane at the heel seam.
These wonderful Sioux Indian Moccasins are sinew sewn by hand with the quillwork design features horizontal lanes of wrapped quills in colors of red, orange and white. The quillwork is executed in red, yellow and light blue. The beaded border features traditional tepee and geometric elements executed in colors of red white-heart, cobalt blue, pea green and chalk white. The Moccasins feature applied tongues and applied, folded cuffs with a border of red and blue seed beads.
The Moccasins offered here are unconditionally guaranteed original and of the period. They are NOT reproductions or modern recreations but original Sioux Moccasins crafted in the fourth quarter of the 19th century. This very rare and very beautiful, Pair of ca1890’s Quill and Bead Decorated Sioux Moccasins are in very good condition. All of the hide elements are well preserved and sound with some surface wear to the soles and some soiling to the uppers. The quillwork is stunningly beautiful with some minor fading to the pigments and some minimal quill loss. There is loss to the beadwork border on both of the Moccasins as can be seen in the scans below. All elements of the Moccasins are original and there has been no repairs or restorations - they are 100% original and very beautiful.
